TV Buying Tips
Televisions are one of the first things a young person buys
when going out in to the real world by him or herself, and are also one of the household items most
frequently upgraded. Televisions are a popular source of personal entertainment and an easy way to entertain
others.
TVs come in many different sizes depending
on the size of the room in which you will be putting it and the wall space that you have to hold it. Small TVs,
starting around 15 inches, are good options to have in a kitchen or small child’s bedroom, or even to use as a
portable digital TV option. TVs that
are 32-42” are popularly found in average sized living rooms, and huge 55” televisions are the cream of the crop
when it comes to outfitting a basement or “man cave.”
While just five or so years ago, cube-shaped televisions were the prominent type
of television found in people’s homes, today the flat screen TV has taken over as the most desired
type.
While cube-shaped TVs are still found, they
are not widely sold new. The two types of flat screen TVs available are plasma and LCD, a personal preference
often argued over.
There are many different places where you
can get a TV. If you are in the market for a brand-new television, one of the most reasonable places to look is
at electronics stores, for example, Best Buy.
These stores will have many different makes
and models, and the sales assistants are very knowledgeable and well trained about the different product
offerings and features and will be very helpful.
Two other popular stores from which to
purchase a TV are Target and Wal-Mart. Both of these stores have large electronics departments and a wide
product selection. However, before making a purchase, you should be sure to shop around and compare prices as
often multiple stores will be selling the same television but at different prices.
You can also purchase a TV online from
stores like Amazon.com and Overstock.com. Online retailers often have very competitive prices on electronics,
but you should be sure to look at the shipping costs as these may outweigh the savings on the TV
itself.
If you are looking to save money but still
would like to find a new television for your home, you should check your local second-hand and thrift stores.
While some second-hand shops do not carry electronics, many others do and lots of great deals can be found on
otherwise expensive items such as TVs.
